I’m not that keen on the idea of spending hundreds or even thousands on a bag – it seems ridiculous spending the kind of money that would buy you a car. Still, there’s nothing wrong with dreaming, and being a bagaholic means that I do find myself occasionally drooling over some expensive but gorgeous bags. So if you want to join in the drooling, here are some beautiful, covetable bags.
1 Mulberry Piccadilly
Even from a little picture, you can tell that this bag is an absolutely top quality product. It’s just made for a weekend away at a posh hotel. I think though that I’d be afraid to use it, and would just keep it at home, guarded by Rottweilers, and gaze upon its beauty.
2 Proenza Schouler Satchel
Sometimes, the classic styles are the best. If you are going to buy an expensive bag (and not just drool), then it makes sense to invest in one that you’ll use forever. Styles like this satchel go with everything, are simple but stylish, and with proper care will last for years.
3 Valentino Clutch
This beautiful clutch bag was made to accompany a Little Black Dress, and would make even the most basic outfit look absolutely stunning. You’d definitely feel like an A-lister carrying it. Just don’t put it down anywhere – imagine the agony of realising that you’d left it somewhere …
4 Diane Von Furstenberg Clutch
Diane von Furstenberg is of course best known for her wrap dresses, but once I clapped eyes on this stunning little suede number, dresses went right out of my head. It’s a beautiful soft pink colour, adorned by a large tassle, and would be just perfect for summer outings.
5 Phillip Lim Velvet Bag
The drool factor is working overtime here … two of my favourite things are combined in this bag, mauve and velvet. It’s also got a huge bow adorning the front, which is nicely different from the average bag. Anybody got $700 they can lend me …?
6 Vanessa Bruno
This blue-grey suede is a subtle but smart colour that won’t date, unlike some more lurid bags. It would definitely last for years, with its modern twist on the classic shoulder bag. I want, I want …
7 Valentino Tote Bag
Another winner from Valentino here. This tote bag is made of raffia with a lace overlay (not just a print, although for that money you would expect the real thing). Again, this would be perfect with a black outfit, where less is more – the bag would stand out without being too loud.
8 Alexander McQueen
Now, you really could buy a car if you had $10,000 … or you could buy this bag. Something practical, or something eyecatching? For ordinary mortals, this clutch will have to remain an object on our wishlists, but it really is stunning, in a slightly weird kind of way.
Would you ever spend a small fortune on one of these bags, or is it cheap and cheerful all the way for you?
